I just completed "Comfort Food" by Kate Jacobs. I grabbed this particular one because I had read her other novel "The Friday Night Knitting Club" last year so I was familiar with some of her work. I figured it would be a light read with just enough drama and humor. The main premise of the book is about a primed cooking channel tv show host, named Augusta "Gus", who is on the verge of either falling off the foodie star map or making a huge comeback after all these new, and younger stars are rising with their latest tv show gimmicks. It's somewhat about a mid-life crisis for a food celebrity type.
I had a difficult time relating to any of the characters in this book. Most of them were involved in this bubble of upperclass, noveau riche, Manhattanites with certain problems that just did not touch base with me. On the other hand, there are elements of looking back to how you thought your life would turn and having ultimate fulfillment in life. Typical mid-life crisis theme. I had a better connection with the characters in Jacob's "Friday...Club" and they seemed more down to earth. So I was a bit disappointed with "Comfort Food" in that the main and secondary characters were not real enough to me.
In short, if you're a fan of the FoodTV network, then imagine the behind the scenes drama of these perfectly produced cooking shows, because that's what this book was basically about.
Next bind to crack... French translated literature from Muriel Barbery ,"The Elegance of the Hedgehog". I've read such great reviews of this book so I'm looking forward to starting it and sharing my thoughts. What are your lastest book recommendations?

i just went back to reading a book i stopped reading last year because i couldn't stop crying then, PS i love you by cecelia ahern. i read it in the bath now, so i don't have to get so sentimental because i only get to spend 2 hours the most with it. ^-^
Not sure if I could handle a tearjerker hehe. I always seem to pass-up PS I love you the movie. I didn't know it was based on a book. Today's a rainy day, might be cozy to watch...i'll see if it's available on Netflix streaming.
